Whose satellite dish is on Rampart Range Road?

QUESTION: While driving up Rampart Range Road from Garden of Gods Park recently, we noticed a large pole with satellite dishes on it just before the shooting range (it was 5.4 miles up the road). It’s in a barbed-wire fenced-in area with a large water tank next to it. Any ideas what the pole is for?

ANSWER: We checked with various entities involved with Rampart Range Road but none knew the answer. We’re hoping a reader can help us out.

When I first read just the headline of the question, I was going to write and tell you that the dish is on Old Stage Rd, not Gold Camp Rd as your subject indicated. When I read the question itself, I realized you were not referring to Steve Cambridge's dish at all, your mention of Gold Camp Road has nothing to do with the question itself. The dishes you are referring to are on Rampart, jsut south of the Rampart Shooting Range. This is just outside of the Garden of the Gods. I have always been under the understanding that they belonged to Springs Utilities. I will check to verify this.

these often are dishes for transmitting environmental monitoring measurements like rainfall, water quality, temperature, wind, etc. by satellite. In that remote location, its probably solar-powered and data is only transmitted 2 to 25 times a day, in short bursts.
